History

St. Luke Lutheran Church began worshiping as a congregation in 1978, led by the Reverend Joel Bexell, who put St. Luke on the map after knocking on the doors of 2,000 homes. From 1978 through 1981, over 350 people worshiped at Crestview Elementary School on the corner of 80th Street and Hinton Ave. In October 1981 members moved St. Luke’s weekly worship gatherings from Crestview Elementary to our current location, 70th Street and Hinton Avenue South. Worship space and classrooms were added between 1988 and 2004 and the Seeds of Faith Preschool served the needs of the community from 2001 - 2024. Since its inception, St. Luke has proclaimed the Gospel with four senior pastors, three interim pastors, multiple associate pastors and other staff members and continues its vibrant Spirit-led ministry alongside Pastor Keith Long (2018 - present) and Pastor-in-training Alison Bondy (2017 - present) to Washington county and the surrounding areas.

Our Saint Paul Area Synod is made up of 110 congregations, mission starts and institutions committed to growing in faith and trust in Jesus Christ. Living out of our identity as Lutherans, we recognize we are grasped by grace and are free to devote our energy to being church in a way that is rooted in tradition and open to experimentation.

    Senior Pastor

    Keith Long is the Senior Pastor of St. Luke Lutheran Church of Cottage Grove, MN. Pastor Keith “PK” brings energy, creativity and a passion for teaching, preaching and interacting with all ages. Pastor Keith’s interests include reading, being active outdoors, podcasting, writing, watching movies and playing fantasy baseball. Off-duty and on, Pastor Keith is especially grateful to share his time and energy with his wife and two young children.

    Alison Bondy

    Alison Bondy is the Director of Music and Congregational Care at St. Luke Lutheran Church in Cottage Grove, MN. She is excited to be working with the congregation and the community to share the love of Jesus with others. Alison brings enthusiasm, love of music and worship, and an adventurous faith to St. Luke. She is thrilled to be part of this community of believers! When not at church, Alison loves to bike, read and spend time with her partner and furry children, all of whom give her immense joy!
